- Start taking notes from the moment you begin to see the museum as you walk up to it from the street. How does the museum building relate to its surroundings? Is it similar, different, larger, smaller than the urban fabric around it?
- The museum is in its brand's building, so it is small place. The museum's atmosphere is same as the brand.
- What is the exterior interior like? Is it decorated? Can you tell what style of architecture it is? How does it relate to what you see inside?
- the exterior is used glasses. The decoration is few and it is simple. The style of architecture is kinds of Europe. There are some Europe clothes, so I can say the architecture relates the inside.
- What is the entrance lobby to the museum like? How does it shape the beginning of your museum visit?
- The entrance lobby is small and the walls are used glasses. The entrance door is not so big.
- Who is attending the museum? What is the general atmosphere like?
- People who are attending the museum are almost women. They are older than me. I think they are over 30 years old. Atmosphere are quiet, but BGM is big.
- How are the galleries organized? Why do you think the galleries and exhibitions look the way they do? (Think about wall color, lighting, interior arrangement etc).
- Clothes are organized in a line. I think this style of gallery looks like a run way.
- How is your object displayed? What other objects is they near to, and why?
- Clothes are displayed in a line. Under the clothes, there are little memo which explain the details of the clothes. This is because visitors can know about the clothes.
- Draw diagrams or pictures to help you remember the layout of the museum and exhibition rooms.
WHAT IS BEING SHOWNForm
- Note textures and the quality of the surface of the work. What adjectives could you use throughout your analysis? Eg. shiny, dull, had, soft, rough, smooth.

- How does the artist use line, color, light and shadow? (See the first few pages of your Stokstad survey textbook for explanations of these terms under “Formal Analysis”)
- Artist use dark light to emphasis clothes and fashion pictures clearly.
- What about the composition? Is it balanced, symmetrical, asymmetrical? Why?
- The composition is symmetrical. I think this is because these clothes are from Europe, and symmerical style is from european countries.
- How big is the work? How does size affect your reaction to the work? How does size affect the depiction of the subject?
- Clothes are not so big for the floor space. It affects that people can feel these clothes are precious and people can gather around objects and see carefully.
- Read the label – what can we tell from the label? Look for the artist’s name, the media/materials used in creating the work, and when and where the piece was made.
- Label is simple design, so I can feel this space is stylish.
- Where was the work originally meant to have been seen, and how might the current context in the museum be similar or different? What might it have been like to view the work in its original context?
- The clothes are from european countries, and they are very old fashion, about 1970-? There are some similar fashion desigh which is popular now, so I can feel old original fasion is related to current fashion.
- Where is the viewer meant to stand in relation to the work? Is there one viewpoint or multiple viewing points?
- There are multiple view points, for example clothes and fashion pictures. Viewers stand near objects.
- Identify the subject matter. Be certain to describe all of the components depicted. Is this artwork telling a story? Is it religious or mythological?
- This subject shows a history of clothes.
- Why this piece and why this place?
- I think this brand designers want to show old fashions, because recently old fashion is popular now, and in building, people who are interested in this brand can go easily.

Transcribe and translate a three minute conversation that you hear people having in or out of the museum. - Because BGM was so big, it was hard for me to listen people's conversations.
- They looked clothes and fashion pictures carefully. They talked in a small voice, and they did not talk a lot.
- Their body expressions were few, but some people pointed clothes and fashion pictures by their fingers.
- They came by pairs, but the didn't talk each other.
